It may have a near zero tourist headcount and there may no longer be much boogieing going on at these former dance halls, but there are still plenty of photogenic reasons for swinging by this bal.

Hidden away on a cobbled passage just north of Pigalle, the industrial-looking venue now houses an offshoot of the legendary Magnum agency. Unsurprisingly, both the bookshop and the photographic exhibitions shown in the designer gallery are stellar, but there’s also gratification for Anglophones in Le Bal’s bistro café where a wide range of teas – the cooks are part Brit – are offered next to the killer espresso. All worth the detour.
