When the building comes from Frank Gehry, the architecture is bound to be as much of an attraction as anything going on inside and that’s naturally also the case at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Located in the northwest corner of Bois Boulogne, the museum and cultural centre makes a stunning contrast against the surrounding greenery.

Breaking with Gehry’s fondness of titanium cladding, this is a marvel of curving glass that took seven years of planning and another six of construction to complete. It’s a masterpiece but the ultra-modern edifice also houses the fine dining restaurant Le Frank run by Michelin-starred chef Jean-Louis Nomicos (advance booking strongly advised), along with contemporary art worth a visit in its own right.

The permanent collection draws from the vaults of LVMH’s foundation as well as the private collection of the luxury group’s CEO and chairman, multi-billionaire Bernard Arnault, one of France’s most avid collectors. Expect a roll call of the likes of Olafur Eliasson, Jeff Koons and Warhol rather than the old masters of the Louvre.

Visit the website to check out the temporary shows and the programme of performances and events taking place in the auditorium. To get there you can either take a scenic walk through the park from the Les Sablons metro or alternatively jump on the LV shuttle that runs every 15 minutes from avenue de Friedland by Arc de Triomphe.
