After a five million euro renovation, this incredible mansion near the Opéra, built by the Russian ambassador to France under Napoleon III, has been transformed into a multidisciplinary arts centre. The project of brother and sister act Fanny and Laurent Fiat, a dancer and artist respectively, the place has dance at its heart but Éléphant Paname offers plenty more.

Spanning 2,000 square meters, there are dance studios across the stunning glass domed stage and courtyard space, whilst you’ll find exhibition and event areas behind the old facade facing the street. So even if you’re not looking to choreograph or rehearse your own numbers in one of the six studios, the roster of exhibitions, concerts and productions should still be able to pique your interest.

The building itself is spectacular – a trip through the old rooms, original features mixed with modern touches and contemporary furnishings, is worth seeing as much as whatever show is on – but there’ll be a culinary attraction, too. Enrico Bernardo, the Italian restaurateur and award-winning sommelier, also behind the Michelin-starred Il Vino in the 7th, will soon open his restaurant on the first floor. Until then you’ll have to finish your visit in the gift shop.
