Whilst the rest of the world is fed up of cupcakes and moving onto macaroons, one little shop in the Marais is already ahead of even that curve. Owned by Lauren Koumetz (whose father runs the recently reopened ‘Lette’ in the States serving the aforementioned meringues), this little shop exclusively serves cream puffs, or pâte à choux.

Forget the humble éclair with its bog standard cream filling; here you’ll get innovative insides like lemon praline, salted butter caramel, passion fruit or Madagascan vanilla and rose. The half dozen varieties, all topped with a little circle of colour-coordinated icing, vary depending on pastry chef Alice Barday’s mood with strawberry and lychee, Earl Grey and Cointreau with candied orange all getting a turn on the counter too, as well as holding down a guest spot at Colette’s Water Bar menu.

Go in the morning and stock up, because post lunchtime it’s slim pickings, which – after one too many of these more-ish morsels – you won’t be able to say about yourself.
