Like so many places in SoPi, Lulu White used to be a ‘hostess bar’ where the right amount of money would buy you any kind of hospitality. Nowadays, although named after a New Orleans brothel madam, infamous for her peddling of Creole girls at Mahogany Hall, the only lady company you can buy here is that of the green fairy. But she’s a loose one; absinthe is the house specialty.

Not that your drinks choice is limited to la fée verte. The bar comes from the crew behind Little Red Door in Haut Marais and the bartenders take their mixology as seriously as at the popular sister venue. They’ll prepare you just about anything and, with their very own slush machine on hand, that even extends to frozen cocktails if alcoholic slurpees are your thing.

The place is relatively small but its Belle Epoque-inspired Art Nouveau interiors are elegant, and the soundtrack of jazz and French electro-lounge is perfect for an early evening drink. It often gets packed at night, especially on weekends when the DJ goes on, and if that isn’t enough excitement, then you’ve got Dirty Dick next door and Glass right across. That’s a bar crawl that literally can be done on your fours.
