Le Perchoir is one of Paris’s most popular summer venues and, once you’re there, it isn’t hard to understand why. Occupying a seventh floor rooftop in the middle of the 11th, it’s a lovely space bestowed with some very covetable 360 degree views and drawing an attractive crowd that’s on the right side of trendy, yet mixed and diverse.

Of course, getting there is the trickier part, as it fills up to capacity quickly. The queue can be gruesomely slow-moving already by 17:00, so show up early or go on a chilly day (the terrace is open year-round, with heaters and blankets to keep you warm). Alternatively, make a dinner reservation at the adjoining sixth-floor restaurant; chef Benoît Dumas’s set menu (changed daily) may be over-priced but isn’t bad at all.

Compared to riverside hotspots Nüba and Wanderlust, the scene is more grown-up and not quite as hipster-ish. The views are also grittier – it’s more of an authentic peek at urban life than postcard perfect. Although you can spot the Sacré Cœur and faintly make out the Eiffel Tower, it’s the sea of copper tiles, chimneys and inner courtyards that will draw you in.
