All the elements at this bar à manger have lined up to create the perfect watering hole. Little surprise, really; behind the venture are le roi du cocktails Fabien Lombardi (of Prescription pedigree) and sommelier par excellence Edouard Vermynck who cut his teeth at the swanky Murano.

In a small space with just half a dozen tables, the pair serves a weird, yet winning combination of natural wines and aged cocktails; for the uninitiated the former is made entirely without chemical interference and the latter mixed to cocktail completion before being corked and aged.

You’ll find a chalk board menu stocked with bottles you probably won’t have heard of (unless you’re familiar with the Courtois Sologne family, of which they have almost the entire collection) but worth challenging the tastebuds for; there are always the cocktails to move on to.

These include an aged negroni, tequila-cucumber Chicharito, flaming Blow Me Down and plenty more besides. Mop up the alcohol with some small plates cooked courtesy of Vermynck’s mother – far from a full menu, but a nice selection of nibbles including fois gras, terrine, simple salads and a couple of warming mains.

Despite the cosy atmosphere and artisanal approach, this place gets rammed with a rock and roll crowd of Parisian hipsters – mixed and hard-to-tells, as opposed to gay – as the music turns upbeat, with breathing space around the bar constricted at best. Join in the party (and it’s not an unattractive one), or turn up early to bag a table.
