Paris probably needed another wine bar like you need a hole in the head, but for fans of the Experimental Group – the ever expanding drinkery empire that includes the immensely popular Prescription and Experimental Cocktail Clubs as well as restaurants such as The Fish Club – this Saint-Germain-des-Prés watering hole will nonetheless be a welcome addition.

While it’s naturally wine (though not all natural wine) rather than cocktails that take center stage at Compagnie Des Vins Surnaturels, it otherwise follows the same cookie-cutter mould that has brought the group so much success, including a retro-contemporary interior from design guru Dorothée Meilichzon. Grown-up and civilised, it’s a place for a conversation over a drink, rather than a boogie.

Bottles start at 20 euros, with a smaller selection available by the glass from six euros and up. They also offer a menu of nibbles and small plates, though for something more substantial without foregoing the vino, you may want to cross the Seine for one of the Right Bank’s natural wine sanctuaries. Try Le Frenchie Bar a Vins, Vivant or Septime for a proper meal, or l’Entrée des Artistes for something livelier.
