Can’t afford Le Crillon? How about Le Crayon: a simple slurred word away from the luxury of that lush Parisian landmark, at a snip of the price. Ok, ok, you won’t exactly be wined and dined old school style, but no matter how colourful your trip has been so far, this hotel promises to top it.

Owned by local artist Julie Gauthron, the 26 rooms and solitary suite are a mish-mash of different colours, materials and patterns which range from ‘simple’ colour-blocked cubbies to ‘unique’ spaces hit by the doodlebug. Geometric spiral graphs cover the walls behind ink-marbled curtains, whilst outlines of different houses are just begging to be coloured in.

Furniture comes courtesy of a variety of flea markets before being given a thorough revamp from 70s lamps to Scandinavian seating. The theme of a Parisian panorama plays out everywhere, from mosaics in the corridors to sketched out buildings on bathtubs, bringing a breath of the city inside.

Not that it’s all child’s play; even if the rooms are indeed toddler-sized: There are flat screen tellies, complimentary Wi-Fi, 24 hour room service, free newspapers and equally eclectic living areas that’ll make you feel at home. Just remember to write down your helpings at the honesty bar and keep a muffler on your nighttime activities; walls are pretty thin.

Of course, if the interiors have served to inspire you, you’re only a short work away from the Louvre. Now all you need to do is learn to stay inside the lines; but where’s the fun in that?
