Not exactly fit for a little stroll, this patch of greenery is huge. Spanning two and a half miles from 59th to 110th Street Cross: by half a mile from Fifth to Eighth Avenue, Central Park was the first urban landscaped park in the United States, originally conceived as a design contest in the early 1850s. Today, the park is home to numerous restaurants, playgrounds, the Metropolitan Museum, the Central Park Zoo, the Wollman Rink, overzealous joggers and suicidal rollerbladers. In summer it’s a hub of free music with concerts on the Great Lawn and at the Rumsey Playfield Summer Stage (by 68th Street on the East side). Those feeling frisky can check out The Ramble, the park’s famed cruising area for the gays next to the Boathouse, which gets cruisy around midnight. Enter the park from the east side at the entrance of 72nd Street. Watch your wallets, boys.
