Imagine a tiny room. OK, now imagine it even smaller. Yep, rooms in this Ian Schrager and Philippe Starck hotel are well laid-out, but itty-bitty. However, if you’re a sucker for design, you’ll forgive the tiny rooms for the low rates (by Manhattan standards) and interior eye-candy.

A mysterious neon escalator takes you up to the lobby, something of a sleek and sultry overgrown greenhouse, from where rooms with Makore wood walls, painted bedside lamps and crisp white linens await. Some flexibility is required to maneuver around the crammed quarters but you'll appreciate the 24-hour gym in the sub-basement.

The hotel also has some of the most coveted outdoor spaces, with an amazing rooftop patio and courtyard bars – make sure to check out the popular Hudson Bar with its gorgeous white illuminated glass floor, and the cosy Library bar.

17.0 of 20. It's a Morgans Hotel Group & Philippe Starck hotel, and that trademark Starck whimsy is on display from the moment you enter. There's a touch of kitsch 1960s fantasia — you travel up in an escalator trapped in chartreuse glass, and the bar sports a lit floor, Dali chairs, and Louis XVI chairs upholstered in Barbarella silver. The park looks like it's swallowed the same thing that Alice did in her Wonderland — 500 gallon watering cans and 30 foot vases and chaise longues in the middle of the garden pathways. But most of the Hudson Hotel is furnished university-style.
