If you were to leave a legacy to the world and house your family’s collected treasures in a magnificent museum, what would it look like? Moth-eaten carpets and a tangled collection of photos, most probably.

In the case of the Thyssen-Bornemisza clan, however, it’s resulted in the third point of Spain’s ‘Golden Triangle’ of art (the Prado and the Reina Sofia are the other two, duh) which opened in 1992 and consists of a massive collection of old masters and major 19th and 20th century works, as well as significant Impressionists, Expressionists, and European and American paintings from the second half of the 20th century.

Big names to look out for include Picasso, O’Keeffe, Hopper, Monet, Van Gough and Kandinsky, as well as Paradis and El Mirador – not artists, but the space’s two buzzing restaurants which draw more than just the artistic crowd.
