Galleta translates into ‘biscuit’ and it’s the good old Marie biscuit – featuring both in dishes and on vintage wall posters – that gives name to Bar Galleta. And while you might not have eaten one of those since being on the losing end of a mushy dare in boyhood, this popular restaurant in the trendy Triball district has plenty of other things on offer.
The menu is full of modern twists and international elements – a tuna tartar with avocado and mango here, a Vietnamese spring roll there, gnocchi to keep the grilled hake company – without veering too far from its base in traditional Spanish cooking. For foodies it might feel a little meh; for somebody seeking a decent meal in a lively, local hotspot it’s perfectly enjoyable.
Whereas the set menu del día weekday lunch deal follows a traditional three-course format, the regular menu is built around sharing plates. A group of big guys might want to order a few extras but otherwise one per head should suffice – and leaves room for the yummy desserts. All featuring Marie biscuits, of course. Reservations essential for dinner and weekend brunch.
