White Cube was set up by Jay Jopling in 1993 as a project room for contemporary art, a literal blank canvas from which artists could exhibit their work. Although it was one of the smallest exhibition spaces in Europe, it remains arguably one of most prominent commercial galleries of the past decade. Since its inception, the gallery has mounted exhibitions of work by many leading international and British artists including Franz Ackermann, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Chuck Close, Tracey Emin, Gilbert and George, Mona Hatoum, Damien Hirst and Gary Hume, and now operates from two spaces. The new space is at 25-26 Mason’s Yard, London SW1Y 6BU (Tube stop: Green Park [Jubilee, Victoria, Piccadilly], +44 20 7930 5373).
