No shark, but instead a cockerel riding a bull in the glass tank at Mark Hix’s Tramshed where Damien Hirst has been busy with the formaldehyde once again. Which could all seem slightly random until you realize that the ‘art’ doubles up as a reminder of the menu that’s been boiled down to a choice of chicken or steak, both served with chips (no sign of those in the tank).

Daily changing starters of the Yorkshire pudding and paté variety (vegetarians, stay at home), and a selection of very British puds (strawberries and cream, apple pie) round off the food offer, though there’s also a takeout option during the day: If you’re just passing, steak sandwiches and chicken are the higher-end alternative to KFC and the local greasy spoons.

Hirst aside, the impressive ex-factory, refectory-style space also hosts the Cock’n’Bull gallery in the basement (open every day between 11-18) and, this being Shoreditch, is frequented by a crowd that is generally a little hipster and arty. Free meals, however, are offered to kids between 16:00-18:00 – under 10s only; the boy toy is still on you – so be prepared for a few rugrats in late afternoons.
