While this might sound like naughty Sunday morning in a Saigon brothel, this Shoreditch restaurant is far and away a much classier affair. With interiors by architecture studio Vonsung, Viet Hoa Mess is a cool, cavernous BBQ temple located underneath its more casual sister café.

The concept puts state-of-the-art infrared grilling stations on every table for some DIY dining, even when the weather isn’t for a barbie outside – which, let’s face it, in England is most of the time. Put your searing skills to the test with British sirloin, marinated pork ribs, spicy chicken and salt & pepper calamari as well as heftily heaped skewers and sides of rice, noodles and salad.

As for the drinks, there’s a good selection of beers, including a Vietnamese brew, freshly blended fruit juices and wine from safer climes like New Zealand, South America and Spain. Enough of those and you may well be starting and finishing your evening in a mess.
