Arm yourself with patience, and then some, if you decide to visit MEAT Liquor around main meal times. Coming from the guys behind the near mythical burger pop-ups MEATwagon and #MEATeasy, hype and the promise of divine hamburgers keep the queue hour-long (it dwindles slightly between 16-17).

But temper your expectations. It looks like a grungy student union bar, and between its no reservations policy, slow service (even once you’re seated) and lack of plates (you eat off the shared tray), there’s absolutely no shortage of things to dislike about the place.

The burgers, however, are indeed very tasty: Fat, juicy and made with pure ground beef, opt for the signature ‘Dead Hippie’ or ‘Double Bubble’. Then renew your gym membership before ordering sides; the deep fried pickles and chilli cheese fries may be good but will have your arteries screaming for mercy.

A must-visit for hamburger aficionados, those less keen on the wait and service concept – other gimmicks include drinks that are served in jam jars, be it cocktails or wine – may want to go elsewhere. The sliders at Spuntino are yummy, Byron definitely has nicer eye candy among its customers, and both are within ten minutes walking distance.
