Rarely has a chip ever been lucky for the waistline, but is the delicious French fry ever really worth a binge? If you’re used to Blighty’s usual vinegar-doused and heavily salted potato poundage, here’s something to make you reconsider.

In the growing tradition of street-van food fads taking up permanent residency (cue Pitt Cue Co and Meat Liquor), Americana mini-diner Lucky Chip follows with its revered hand-cut chips. Cooked with organic potatoes and crisped in rapeseed oil, you’re getting less trans-fat and more trans-Atlantic flavour. And what’s more flavoursome than wasabi mayo and optional truffle oil, free with every portion?

Aside from the sides, there are dogs and yet another contender for London’s best burger which at Lucky Chip varies week to week but ranges from the blue cheese and jalapeno-filled El Chappo to the oak-smoked bacon and pineapple-topped Selleck (after Tom, naturally) with other film star-themed specials.

Not that there’s anything Hollywood glam about the off-piste location – you’re hanging out in an East End pub – but as it’s a bit of a bugger to get to transport-link wise, you will be in the company of the locals (there’s now also another branch in Soho). Thank your lucky stars (not chips) if you’re into hipsters whose skinny jeans are just begging to be burst.
