Don’t be put off by the slight incongruities of Damson & Co. The pretty rustic-chic interiors look more like Borough than Soho, yet it’s right on the former sleaze path of Brewer Street. And while it has ceviche and oysters on the menu, it’s mostly a coffee shop. A coffee shop more British than a cuppa tea. But it all feels quite right when you’re there.

Serving only artisanal, organic local produce, everything on the menu – from the cheese and charcuterie to the wine and Billingsgate oysters – is made in Blighty. The coffee, of course, isn’t grown locally, but it is brought in by bicycle from Ozone, the East London coffee roasters. Add to that Cornish tea and a respectable list of boutique gin brands.

Open all day, there are freshly pressed juices, tasty eggs, and a wide selection of freshly made sandwiches to start the day, with soups and seafood dishes added around lunchtime. Be warned that you may pop in for a morning coffee, and stay until dusk. It’s that easy to segue effortlessly from breakfast and brunch into afternoon G&Ts and Pimms spritzers here.
