A cocktail too many at this small basement bar on Hoxton Square and you’ll indeed have difficulties recalling the night’s events. Happiness Forgets, however, is a place for savouring your cocktail in a civilised manner rather than simply getting sloshed (that’ll come naturally, no worries).

Cosy and neighbourhood-y, it might not look like nothing special but that’s mostly not to distract from the tipple. Ignore the short drinks menu and instead tell the mixologist what flavours and textures you like. The place is a favourite with other bartenders, as evidenced by the slew of industry awards garnered, and there’s a real dedication to concocting the perfect tipple for each customer.

The bar is open late afternoons and early evenings only and there’s a sitting-only policy, so to avoid disappointment it’s a good idea to book ahead, especially late in the week and in the after-dinner time slot. And, oh, be nice and tip generously if you think of returning. Happiness may forget but bartenders, as you should know, have longer memories than elephants.
