Following the success of the Experimental Cocktail Club in Chinatown, the French owners have brought over another of their Parisian smash hits to London. And although the location this time is Covent Garden and it’s a wine rather than cocktail bar, the concept isn’t that different: It’s yet another pleasant place to enjoy a conversation over a quality tipple. For a party, go fish.

As at the original in Saint-Germain, French interiors guru Dorothée Meilichzon has been behind the design and she’s created a similar retro-contemporary living room feel here at Compagnie Des Vins Surnaturels in Seven Dials. It’s cosy, grown-up and civilised, if not quite apt for dining; stick to nibbles and small plates from the food menu or you’ll be out of space on the tiny tables.

It’s not particularly cheap – bottles start at around thirty quid with a smaller selection available by the glass for a tenner or so – but as most wines come from small, less-known producers, at least it’s not your typical Tesco plonk either. Better value is the Mystery Wine; £9 gets you a glass of a randomly selected wine – identify it correctly and score a bottle for free.
