In the place of Barcode Soho and its fit clientele, you’ll now find the Archer Street Cocktail Bar. Gone are the legendary Comedy Camp nights, although the new all-singing, all-dancing wait staff – they really do break into song throughout the evening – ensures that some element of camp is still alive.

The bar retains its split-level setup but, with a hotel lobby vibe upstairs, an Alpine lodge feel in the basement and a 90s classics and cheesy tunes soundtrack, it’s definitely attracting a straighter crowd; most of the gay boys present seem to be out entertaining their PAs and straight workmates from the surrounding area’s media businesses.

Drink prices have also gone hetero-way with cocktails now starting around a tenner, although that does include free bites of charcuterie and cheese from 18-19:30 in the Italian aperitivo tradition. Cheaper than a sit-down meal at the neighbouring Bocca di Lupo, if not quite as filling.

Not much of a party destination but the lack of elbow-barging and bar-hustling is unheard of in this corner of town, so come here for relief from the scrum in the deeper recesses of Soho.
