If ever a hotel had a royal pedigree, this is it. Named variously after Queen Victoria’s husband and son, it’s only had six General Managers since its inception in 1897 – meaning you get a carefully passed down legacy of quality and service. In the heart of Mayfair, on the corner of fashionable Mount Street and close to Park Lane. A recent restoration has seen the period features tidied up and the introduction of mod cons to rooms and suites painted peppermint green with silver leaf and Edwardian slate, and furnished with beautiful damask silk curtains and cast iron baths. There’s also a bar designed by David Collins, a restaurant run by Hélène Darroze, and a personal butler for every guest. Just in case you need directing to the neighbouring Balenciaga store. Built by a Queen, for the queens. Perfection.
