Once named the best hotel in the world for ‘party people’, yet located in the heart of The City with all of its financial institutions, The Andaz is still a bit of a mystery to most Londoners.

Revamped by Conran as the Great Eastern Hotel and now representing the more boutiquey arm of the Hyatt group, the Victorian red-brick’s USP is all about effortless luxury, with check-in happening via a laptop in the lobby, ‘healthy’ mini-bars in the red, white and black rooms, and no less than five restaurants and five bars to choose from.

While it may read slightly gimmicky, the building is spectacular, the 200-odd rooms comfortable (though not particularly big), and service and facilities top-notch, including a pretty decent gym. With great deals often available and close to the happening areas around Shoreditch and near enough to the West End for a wide range of entertainment, it’s a great choice for either business or leisure.
