Gone are the bunnies, the only stripping going on at the former Playboy Club these days, is the kind architect and designer Thierry Despont got up to in order to create this boutique-y luxury hotel.

Housing only 45 (get it?) suites and rooms – all with lovely views of Hyde Park (the higher the floor, the better) – 45 Park Lane is smaller and more intimate than sister hotel The Dorchester next door. It’s more contemporary, too, with an art deco-inspired style that is more Mad Men than traditional Mayfair luxe.

Opulence isn’t in short supply, however. Besides an exclusive Damien Hirst collection in the hotel, every room has artwork by contemporary British artists. When you make a reservation, a ‘host’ is assigned who will get in touch before your arrival to make sure your room is arranged to your liking, personally greet you and act as your private concierge.

Those wanting to take advantage of the views with a workout but aren’t interested in actually entering Hyde Park can use the 24 hour fitness studio – head next door to the Dorchester gym and spa for a bigger facility – or choose to have in-house massages that come to you.

A bigger draw may be access to CUT at 45 Park Lane, the latest outpost of LA-based celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s upscale carnivore franchise and his first European eatery. Serving sizzling steak to an increasingly meat-mad London crowd, getting a room may be the easiest way of securing a table.
