On a per square meter basis, the Qbic London City is probably as expensive as some of the glammer hotels, yet the Dutch-owned hotel chain still manages to offer some of the lowest priced rooms in town. Yup, these tiny cubbyholes are for neither the claustrophic nor the romantically inclined.

You’ll be familiar with the concept if you’ve ever stayed at a Yotel. The rooms are slightly larger here, but the general idea remains the same: self-service check-in and compact, but well-laid out rooms that offer super comfortable beds, decent showers and a chic, modern design that belies the rock-bottom rates.

While you’ll have to fork out extra if you desire either a window or a view, both in-room Wi-Fi and a breakfast bag (juice, granola bar and a piece of fruit) are included in the daily rate. The hotel facilities also include some pleasant common spaces, vending machines and a kitchen area where a full Continental breakfast can be purchased in the morning.

Close to the Shoreditch scene and only a (brisk) 15-minute walk away from Liverpool Street Station, it’s a convenient option if you’re catching a flight from either Stansted or City Airport, or want to explore East London with enough change for a curry on nearby Brick Lane. Just don’t get the runs if you’re sharing your room – there’s no real bathroom privacy.
