Price From GBP 395. Antony Gormley’s Room GBP 2,250.

If you’re looking for something that falls in between the formality of the Park Lane grand dames and the trendiness of, say, Schrager’s The London Edition, then go take a look in the area in between. Because that’s where you’ll find The Beaumont, in the Oxford Street end of Mayfair and just a stone’s throw from Selfridges.

Conceived by Jeremy King and Chris Corbin, the restaurateur duo behind The Wolseley, the hotel isn’t unlike just that brasserie on Piccadilly. Set in a repurposed 1926 building, they’ve transformed the space from Avis Rent-a-Car garage into an Art Deco beauty. It’s a sceney and buzzing hotspot, yet also elegant, classy and ‘grown up’.

Antony Gormley’s Room naturally provides the biggest talking point. That’s the name both of the suite designed by the artist as well as of his massive statue that dominates the building facade – and houses the oak-lined sleeping area for aforementioned suite. It’s art immersion taken to a new extreme.

Other rooms – 50 standard and 23 suites in total – are decidedly more conventional, though with plenty of character and bespoke details. Overnight guests will enjoy superbly comfortable beds, high quality finishings, and access to the residents-only lounge and gorgeous basement spa facilities with gym, hammam and plunge pool.

Drinks at the American Bar and dining at the two-level Colony Grill Room (also where the included morning breakfast is served) are the main draws for everybody else. Both enjoyable, and great spaces for some see-and-be-seen socialising. For dinner service, make a reservation at the time of booking your room. Yes, that popular.
