How to get there

Catch the regional train to Roskilde from København H, Nørreport or Østerport. Trains leave every 5-15 minutes for a journey of around 20 minutes.

Get in touch with your inner Viking with a trip to Roskilde. One of Denmark’s oldest and historically most important towns, it’s home to the imposing Roskilde Cathedral, Europe’s first brick-built Gothic cathedral and the final resting place for the country’s monarchs, with an impressive array of royal tombs in residence in the various chapels.

Here you’ll also find Vikingeskibsmuseet, the Viking ship museum, complete with the relics of five genuine Viking ships rescued from the nearby fjords, from warships to fishing vessels.

And if you’re in town during the last weekend of June, check out the Roskilde Festival if you’re in partying in near guaranteed rain. Many are: some 120,000 attend, with local and international names like R.E.M, Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Gorillaz, Kanye West, The Chemical Brothers and the Kings of Leon headlining hour-long open air sets.
