Forget stuffy Roman amphitheatres and ballet boxes – Copenhagen’s concert hall designed by starchitect Jean Nouvel comes in the form of a giant cube covered in blue screens used for image projections, and is part of the ambitious Ørestaden development just outside the city proper.

Home to the national symphony orchestra, its four stages of varying sizes (the largest can hold 1,800) are constantly buzzing with classical arrangements, operas, modern dance performances and headlining rock and pop acts, both local and international.

If you visit for architectural rather than musical motives, then make sure that your performance takes place in Koncertsalen, the impressive main auditorium that also holds the incredible Van den Heuvel (pipe!) organ.
