Those in need of a quick bite to eat on the go could do much worse than a take-away sandwich from this cheap smørrebrød stand. Considering its central location and proximity to the swarms in Nyhavn, escaping with a heavily laden piece of bread for little more than a tenner is pretty impressive.

There are about 15 seats if you want to try your luck at a proper lunchtime rest stop for flæskesteg med rødkål (roasts with cracklings and red cabbage), stew, or cakes and coffees, with platters starting at DKK 69 ideal for sharing.

The main attractions in the glass cabinets are the open-faced sandwiches which include all the traditional varieties of herring, shrimp, smoked eel and roast beef, as well as a classic Wednesday special of stegt flæsk med persillesovs (bacon-y pork with parsley sauce). Those less interested in pickles and remoulade can choose from hams, cheeses and frikadeller (meatballs), too.
