A Dane and a Microsoft software developer may not be the most confidence-inducing pairing for setting up a Thai eatery, yet Henrik Yde-Andersen and Lertchai Treetawatchaiwong somehow turned Kiin Kiin into a Michelin-starred establishment – the world’s only Thai restaurant with that honour.

Granted, the French foodies don’t have a Bangkok guide but if you’ve tired of Noma, ‘new Nordic’ cuisine and smørrebrød, and are looking for a top-notch dining experience in Copenhagen, then you’re in very good hands here. It’s perhaps not the best Thai restaurant in the world – though Yde-Andersen did hone his skills during years in Thailand and most the staff are Thai-born – but still a pretty fine one.

The offering consists of a single tasting menu – a cheaper, edited version is available for the first seating – and starts off with a stream of delicious amuse-bouches served in the lounge at street level, before the main courses are served in the dining room upstairs. Exquisite and refined, dishes work with the flavours of the ingredients, rather than overpowering them with spices. The wine pairing menu is recommended.

Popular among foodies and couples for special night out, the atmosphere is relaxed and informal but seating just 45, booking is recommended.
