With a branch of Halifax in every district of the city and every other restaurant having its own signature version, you might think that Copenhagen had already surpassed its gourmet burger saturation point. Well, Henrik Yde, the chef behind the Michelin-starred Kiin Kiin Thai restaurant, begs to differ and brings you Burger & Bun.

Eight different variants – from a classic American to a ginger-and-wasabi chicken Japanese or a very Danish pork interpretation – are offered up, all made from organic, locally sourced ingredients and served in buns that are freshly baked on-site. Complement with sides like pork rinds and duck fat-fried potatoes and finish up with a shake.

The food is as good as you’d expect from a chef of this calibre but it’s the interiors that really set the place apart. Beautifully decked out with Danish design classics and Emma Sivell graphics, it spurns the typical retro diner theme for contemporary chic. Order another Mikkeller microbrew or a bottle of Yde’s own natural wine and toast to the latecomers.
