Those in need of more than a relaxing bath after a particularly strenuous night out on the Berlin scene might find some respite at the Liquidrom.

The Dead Sea it ain’t, but there is something faintly exotic about the dimly lit domed interiors and the moonlit watery reflections rippling across stone arches. The main attraction is a huge salt-water pool surrounded by soothing lights which plays chilled out music to a conflagration of stressed-out swimmers floating on its surface.

Some nights live DJs and bands perform pool-side with music ranging from electronic to deep house, or a simple solo clarinet player or harpist. There’s even the odd underwater reading thrown in. If that still leaves you too tightly-wound, book yourself in for a massage in one of the treatment rooms, or head to the Finnish or Himalayan Salt Sauna to sweat it out.

Special ‘infusions’ are available for free every hour, including salt rubdowns, honey unctions and fruity concoctions. There’s a bar offering healthy snacks like salads or bagels and smoothies, and a kiosk renting out towels, slippers, bathrobes and even bathing suits. Retire to a deckchair in the cosy courtyard with a blanket and watch the stars come out to play before you head back to do the same.
