Despite its homely sounding name, Pantry packs far more than your usual kitchen staples. Using mainly locally sourced goods in a ‘slow food’ ethos, the restaurant’s Australian chefs whip up Spanish-inspired cuisine with Asian touches to bring a taste of far flung lands to its slick Mitte location.

The open kitchen lets you watch the food preparation, and while the menu changes every month, depending on what the weather is doing and what local markets have on offer, it should include the likes of beef tataki, grilled pulpo, and the two-person ‘The Quest’ côte de boeuf. Starters come in around a tenner, mains graze the 20 euro mark and while the wine card may be small and limited to European labels, for Berlin, it’s also very reasonably priced.

All this somehow adds up to a formula which works. The interiors are of the casual hotspot variety with sofa-style seating and a clubby lounge atmosphere, yet elegant enough for a business dinner and sufficiently intimate for a tête-à-tête. A great mid-range option in a corner of town too dominated by tourist traps and down-home greasy spoons.
