There’s no lack of history to this building, having served first as Jewish department store and later as the HQ to Adolf’s youth paramilitary Hitler-Jugend organisation before housing the Communist Party during the Soviet rule of East Berlin. Now as Soho House Berlin, it’s another brick in Nick Jones’s empire.

Accommodation options at this hotel and private members club range from small dormitory-style singles in the attic to extra large rooms with dining and sofa areas. All 40 rooms are nice, but the real attraction for hotel guests is definitely access to all of the in-house club facilities (members get the added benefit of reduced rates).

Following the by now well-known Soho House formula, the marble-floored six-floor Bauhaus structure holds a rooftop bar and pool, private screening room, and a signature Cowshed spa and full-size gym, as well as a Cecconi’s restaurant. As a more cheeky nod to the, ehem, colourful past, there’s also the second floor bar and dining area Politburo.
