When thoughts turn to a tipple, the visitor to Paris will think toute suite wine. So it may come as a surprise that Paris is home to an expanding chain of speciality beer shops. The third Bières Cultes has just opened in Les Halles and showcases the finest Francophone beers in the manner of the smartest wine merchants.
On display are French brews such as l’Orval, La Fleurac de Printemps and l’Agent Provocateur – an amber nectar with hints of exotic fruits. For a truly Gallic quirk, the beers are sold in champagne size bottles, the magnum, the jeroboam and, for the really thirsty, the mathusalem. Take home a taste of the unexpected – designer beer Parisian style.
