This place may not look like much, however charming the former birdshop may be with its vintage meat slicer and art nouveau tiles, but make no mistake: Pierre Jancou’s latest is the Parisian foodie destination du jour.
The young chef has built his reputation on making tasty dishes made from superb, market-fresh ingredients and that’s also what’s on offer at Vivant. Simple and relatively pricey, yet worth every cent, the menu – French bistro cuisine with a little homespun Italian flair (the burrata is a must) – changes according to the ingredients sourced that particular day.
But while it’s hard to go wrong with the food, the wine card can be hit or miss. Composed entirely of natural wines, made in small quantities by independent producers and often sourced personally by Jancou, it can be difficult to navigate, even for seasoned oenophiles – do ask for help.
Located in an increasingly trendy part of town – you’ll also find 60by80 favourites Le Pompon two doors down, and both Le Napoléon and Lucky Luciano within a block – the tiny restaurant gets predictably busy. Call ahead to reserve a table, be it for lunch or dinner, as popping by may leave you disappointed.
