Pronounced Zsa Zsa, like the iconic Gabor diva, as opposed to the emphatic German dismissal, come to Ja Ja for the cool bistro vibe – an anomaly in the Marais, some would say – and don’t get massively hung up on gastro-critic imperfections.
A hipper, trendier off-shoot of Julien Fouin’s acclaimed Glou, the place features a delectable, tome-like wine menu while the food offering is more random. Dishes range from organic smoked salmon and chestnut cream soup to comfort options such as Croque Monsieurs and, for the hurried, gourmet hot dogs to go.
Lunch comes at a relatively bargainous EUR 16 but dinner isn’t exactly cheap. However, enjoy the location and chic atmosphere in this lovely courtyard (semi-al fresco in summer), surrounded by terribly on-it boutiques (including a sex-toy recharging spot; how Continental) and fall in love with the Scandi-sleek decor, the hot and très parisien waitstaff, and the generally très attractive crowd.
