The “underground” restaurant scene may have been slower to take off in France than it has Stateside but since it started up in 2007, this private supper club has become one of the worst-kept and best-loved secrets in Paris foodie circles. Twice a week, a U.S. couple cook and serve a 10 course tasting menu for 16 people at a secret location in the centre of the French capital. Reservations are by e-mail only and they choose the menu from seasonal produce, along with the matching wines. As an example, a recent selection included a red snapper enchilada with cilantro rice, a flank steak with grilled peaches and cabbage slaw, and vanilla and thyme-poached apricots with a crème fraîche sorbet. Everyone sits at a single table, so it’s not the place for a romantic tête-à-tête, but if you’re feeling sociable, this is a great new take on Paris dining.
