The newest hipster ‘scene’ in the Ninth’s bobo SoPi district comes courtesy of chef Franck Baranger’s Le Pantruche, a fuss-free spot that’s attracting crowds eager to try the bistro menu at more-than-fair prices.
Quality ingredients and wholesome French cooking get the spotlight, with dishes that include braised beef cheeks, celery root velouté, an oyster tartare starter that everyone’s citing, and a great côte de cochon.
The clean 30s interiors include original mirrors, banquettes and a zinc-topped bar which is perfect for a little pre-dinner wine prop. The neighbourhood may be inhabited by baby-boomers and career climbers but babies or not, this particular corner offers some good people watching.
