Play the pint-sized hero on the multi-ethnic hipster thoroughfare of rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis. Conquer an outside table and watch the varied traffic traverse the pavements whilst you tuck into traditional Parisian bistro fare at this laid-back corner cafe.
Comforting and filling, they’ll do eggs any way, boards of brilliant cheeses and charcuterie, and a nice array of cakes and pastries. Owned by Polish-born, Costes-trained Frenchman Rafael Grusziewicz (how’s that for a mouthful), later in the day you can also choose from garlic-buttered snails and fois gras to beef bourguignon, steak tartare or beef burgers (some of the juiciest in the city).
Gay-friendly, neighbourhoody, and much easier to sidle up to for a table than nearby Chez Jeanette, you can munch until midnight without worrying about invading armies coming in to steal your space.
