If Paris is playing catch-up on the international cocktail circuit, then it’s certainly up to speed style-wise. The centre-piece of this Left Bank lounge is the bowler hat light fitting atop of the spiral staircase; it’s a crafty use of the two-level space, and this John Steed trademark gives it a decidedly dapper feel.

Staff are dressed in unisex pyjama style uniforms which adds a further layer of quirk. Think the Darlings at a Peter Pan slumber party and, as the night wears on and the senses fuddle, a distinct element of one too many over the cuckoo’s nest. But don’t be fooled by these nods to bedtime stories – the Prescription Cocktail Club serves a killer cocktail list. House favourites include the Experience #1, an elixir of elder flower, basil, lemongrass, vodka, and lemon, and the rum-based Old Cuban, a mixture of mint, lime, ginger, Champagne, and bitters.

The trendy joint comes from bar entrepreneurs Romee de Goriainoff and Pierre-Charles Cros, the duo also responsible for the trailblazing success of sister speakeasy establishments, The Experimental Cocktail Club and Curio Parlor. In the vanguard of a new slew of high-design drinking dens, this is another hole in the wall with style.
