A Fashion Week bolthole, this den of opulence rekindling the excessive style of France’s Second Empire Costes’ has cemented its reputation as a gold-standard hotel and celebrity haven with a slew of awards. Designer Jacques Garcia had everything from carpets and lamps to the furniture and wallpaper custom-made to create what is one of the city’s most famous, and fabulous, hotels, helped along by the fantastical sub-terranean pool in the basement’s catacombs and the hugely popular courtyard café and bar, which have in themselves spawned a series of music compilations.
