With 20,000 bikes at some 1,500 stations across the city, Vélib is the world’s largest bike rental system and provides both locals and visitors a cheap and eco-friendly way to get around town. It’s easy to use – buy a short term subscription with a credit card (your security deposit will also be taken out) to obtain an access code and PIN. To release a bike, simply enter this code and PIN at a station, as well as the stand number of the bike you want. Return it at any station with a free stand within 30 minutes. Note that you will need an Amex or a chip-enabled credit card to be able to use this system.
