So, it may be overpriced and overhyped, but the marquee party of the Fire Island season is still tremendously good fun.
Ascension as such is a weekend-long party, allowing you to get to know your fellow revellers more, ahem, intimately should you stay on the island, but the main event by far is the Sunday beach party. With a big name headline act – Dragonettes, The Freemasons and Kelly Rowland in recent years – hundreds of Manhattan boys make a daytrip out to the island to dance in the sand.
The fun doesn’t come cheap for what is essentially a few hours of partying on the beach, but the small setting and intimate atmosphere ensures a loyal fan base. The extra cost of a VIP ticket is well worth it, both for quicker bar service and better toilet facilities.
