One of the world’s biggest pride celebrations, and arguably the most spectacular of parades. More carnival than a political demonstration, the city turns into one big rainbow-coloured party zone, stretching from Fifth Avenue across to Greenwich Village and onto the Hudson River piers.
Led by Dykes on Bikes (literally), the parade starts around noon of the final Sunday at Fifith Avenue by 36th Street and lasts a good couple of hours. There's a street party during the day along Hudson Street between 14th Street and Abingdon Square in Tribeca, where you can pass time until the big finale at night, the Dance on Pier benefit party on Pier 54 by 13th Street.
