You know that feeling you get when someone tries to set you up on a blind date? You ask, “What’s he like?” and your friend resorts to, “Oh, he has a great personality.” Reassuring, right? Whilst The Chelsea is definitely one of the city’s most legendary hotels and a guide book favourite (a renowned residence for eccentric types, even the bathroom soaps have “A Rest Stop for Rare Individuals” written on them), it could use a little modern loving – and we’re not talking the kinky stuff. Everyone from Mark Twain to Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen have stayed here, making it an interesting and nostalgic rest-up, but if you’re looking for a lush place to call home, you may want to blow this date off and rely on other friends to make the recommendations.
