Taking a break from shopping on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue and heading to Williamsburg in Brooklyn will reward you with boutiques, stylish home-decor shops, shoe stores, vintage shops and record stores. This former industrial area, now embraced by recent grads and trendy 30-somethings, is a shopping haven for hipsters with vintage meccas to high-end boutiques. Most of the action is on Bedford Avenue, with the cross streets then leading to lesser known, but more exclusive and avant-garde locations such as Beacon’s Closet for vintage finds, Oak for fashionable menswear with a British bent, and Nom De Guerre for minimalist designs with a Japanese touch.
