What started as a humble DC chain of Latin-Asian fusion fare has finally made its New York debut. Scene-y but with very tasty food from a menu that expectedly mixes and matches from the two cuisines, resulting in dishes like Thai empanadas, duck breast tacos and wagyu churrasco. The interior comes with the signature of the red-hot AvroKO design team, with wrought iron screens and timber beams adorning the three levels, with the main dining room on the ground floor, a sake and shochu lounge on the mezzanine, whilst the basement plays home to La Biblioteca, a tequila bar with a 500-strong selection and its own sommelier. Taking out a full bottle? No need to down the agave juice in one go – this library will shelf it for you until your next visit. Sushi Samba, the perennial Sex and The City favourite, may have lost its sizzle, but Zengo shows that the mix of sushi and samba still works.
