There’s no relation to the 14th Street fashionista heaven, Jeffrey, but the edible goods on sale here at Gabriel Stulman’s retro-Americana beautifully designed grocery store-cum-restaurant space, named after his father, are no less exquisite.
What started life as a tiny, artisanal gourmet deli with twenty-odd hotly contested seats at the back, now encompasses extra menus, seating and an oyster bar. The grocery lives on but has been reduced to selling pastries and baked goods during the day (no room for flirting in the aisles), with the former shelf space transforming into a bar for evening traffic. Fans can still get hold of Jeffrey’s readymade meals to take home, they just won’t be able to see them first.
However, this is all good news for the grub, as 24 covers have become 49. So, grab a seat for brunch and you’ll be enjoying frittatas, duck confit and fried egg salad or French toast with rum roasted bananas, or make it a late date with dinner. The raw bar features oysters, market crab and plateau de la mer, hot dishes include braised brisket and roasted monkfish with sharers like chickpeas and white beans, bonito del norte and marinated octopus to go around.
The compact menu also offers a selection of cheese and charcuterie, as well as other goodies like braised brisket sandwiches and New England clam chowder. Tuck in and finish off with a one-dollar coffee.
